When you have submitted a completed form it will be reviewed by our human resources department. You will be notified by email if your document has been approved or denied along with an explanation on what needs to be revised if necessary.

Become a Substitute Teacher/ Parent Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in becoming a substitute teacher/ parent volunteer with the Evangeline Parish School District. 

The first step in the process is to complete the [SUBSTITUTE TEACHER] online application. The [SUBSTITUTE TEACHER] application will be available on the Employment Opportunities website once the substitute training registration is open. The application will close at the end of the registration window. 

 All required documents must be uploaded with the application in order for your application(registration) to be complete.

 

Substitute Teacher / Parent Volunteer Required Documents:

  • Driver's License or State ID Card
  • Social Security Card
  • Direct Deposit-Evangeline Parish School District requires all employees to use direct deposit for all compensations.
  • Employees must provide a voided check, bank enrollment ACH Form, or ABBA routing and account numbers to be used.
  • All prospective employees are required to obtain a criminal background check. The applicant will be contacted by Central Office personnel to schedule a Criminal Background Check (CBC) / Fingerprinting after training has been completed.

Substitute Teacher / Parent Volunteer Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/Transcript or GED/HiSet (High School Equivalency)
  • College Diploma/Transcript (30+ hrs.)
  • Must be at least 20 years of age
  • Must have a state-approved high school diploma or GED/HiSet (High School Equivalency Test)
  • In the absence of a state-approved high school diploma or its equivalent, he/she must achieve a passing score as determined by the Superintendent of Schools on the Para-Pro Test or on a norm references test.
  • Applicants will be exempted from testing if they present documentation of a score of 16 or better on the A.C.T. or possess an associate or higher degree from an accredited university.
  • Must complete ESPB's Substitute Training Program administered by Central Office Staff.
  • Must comply with all employment guidelines as required by the state and local policies (i.e. criminal background check, fingerprinting, application for employment, etc.)
  • Must possess reasonable health; be clean, neat, and adhere to the current Evangeline Parish Teacher Dress Code
  • Must be able to maintain appropriate standards of professional behavior
  • Must satisfactorily perform all duties assigned by the principal or his designee
  • Must complete online renewal and ethics training annually in order to maintain an active substitute status with Evangeline Parish School District. 

 

*Experienced and/or retired certified teachers who have taught in Evangeline Parish in the last five (5) years are not required to attend substitute training.

*Certified substitute teachers who have not worked in the last three (3) years are required to repeat substitute training to reactivate your status.


Louisiana Department of Education – ACT 634 Requirements

During the 2018 Legislative session, the legislature passed ACT 634 which requires the Department to issue teaching authorizations to substitute teachers in public schools, as well as to substitute teachers, teachers, and administrators in public charter schools and nonpublic schools who do not hold valid certificates. The Department is required to issue these authorizations provided the teacher or substitute teacher has not facilitated cheating, has not submitted fraudulent documentation to the Department, and has not been convicted of a felony or pled nolo contendere to a felony offense*.
