We take this opportunity to welcome
staff, students, and parents to the opening of the 2011-12 school year.
This year promises to be one of focus and commitment to the academic
achievement of all who attend our schools. Central office administrators
and school principals have worked collaboratively throughout the summer to
ensure that all facets of the curriculum are designed to address the diverse
needs of the students.
One of the new
programs being offered is Connections. This program targets students who
are fifteen years of age and are at least two years behind in school. The
goal is to accelerate these students during the school term to prepare them
to take Leap-8. This requires teachers who are prepared to diversify and
individualize instruction on a daily basis, in all content areas. Another
innovative approach we will be implementing this year is EdOptions. This
computer assisted program allows students to take courses online for high
school credits. Both are wonderful opportunities for students to move
forward.
The parish
continues its commitment to the magnet programs at Pine Prairie and Ville
Platte High Schools. Dual enrollment and Advanced Placement course
offerings continue to grow at VPHS. We have students completing high school
with as many as twenty-four college hours, with all of these earned on
campus at VPHS.
I encourage you to
read about these programs and others as you move through our website. There
are many wonderful programs offered to students in Evangeline Parish.
Whether it be the elementary, middle, or high school, regular or special
education, you will find staff committed to the parish's vision of greater
student achievement.
